Did Jason Motte Just Blow the World Series?
ESPN - Jason Motte stood in front of his locker in the quiet Cardinals clubhouse and said the same thing over and over: "I didn't do my job."
Three outs from taking a 2-0 World Series lead to Texas, St. Louis instead finds itself tied with the Rangers at a game apiece.
Motte allowed consecutive singles to open the ninth inning, and sacrifice flies by Josh Hamilton and Michael Young lifted the Rangers to a 2-1 victory Thursday night.
Here is the video of the ninth inning of last night's game. As you can see the Rangers never would have been able to score the second run if the right fielder could have hit his cut off man Pujols. The Rangers would have tied the game and the Cardinals could have won in the ninth or taken it to extra innings. Motte did blow the save, but I don't beleive he blew the whole game. This game should have gone to extras.
With that said I think the Cardinals needed to win this game to have a chance. I originally picked the Cardinals to win it all, but only because they had home field advantage. That is now gone and I believe the Rangers small ball last night will ultimately win them the World Series.
