Players Reject Owners Collective Bargaining Proposal, Season Lost?
Here is the latest offer from the owners to the players. We just learned the players have rejected this offer and will move to disband the union. This moves us closer to the entire NBA season being lost.
ESPN - The union, whose members have been locked out since July 1st, also plans to pursue an antitrust lawsuit against the NBA.
"We're prepared to file this antitrust action against the NBA," union
executive director Billy Hunter said Monday, the 137th day of the
lockout. "That's the best situation where players can get their due
process."
Hunter said the union has negotiated in good faith over two years and
feels that they have given enough, while the NBA was "not willing and
prepared to negotiate."
Now likely waiting for the players is a proposal that will call for a 53
percent to 47 percent split of BRI in the owners' favor, a flex cap
with a hard ceiling and rollbacks for current salaries.
So it looks like we will be watching a lot of basketball overseas this year. The players rejected the best offer that they could possibly get from the NBA. Stern said anything after this offer will be considerably worse.
Many players have already expressed their thought on playing elsewhere and the latest is from Kevin Durant who says “I’m right on the fence with playing overseas and I’m about to jump over.”
The more this crap goes on the more I'm on the players side. All the NBA has done is throw out threats and push talks in the wrong direction. Either way they all seem greedy to me and I honestly don't mind seeing all of them lose a couple bucks. On the other hand NBA was at an all time high last year and I watched more basketball than I have in a while. It's a bad situation for everyone.
