Division 3 Player Drops 89 Points in Game

Meet Grinnell College’s Griffin Lentsch who scored a National record 89-points in one game.  The beat Principia College 145-97 Saturday afternoon in Elsah, Ill.  He passed fellow Grennell College grad Jeff Clement who held the record with 77 points.

Lentsch’s total is third all-time in all of NCAA, placing him behind
the 112-point production by Clarence “Bevo” Francis of Rio Grande in
1954 and the 110-point output by Frank Selvy of Furman, also in 1954.  He nailed 15 three point shots and went 20-22 at the free throw line.

Grinell - Lentsch, who had 40 points at halftime, is still in awe of the
record. “It’s still setting in,” he said. “I didn’t think I would ever
score that many points.”

Lentsch said he wasn’t necessarily shooting well early on. “I was
trying some 3s, but some of them weren’t dropping so I started driving
to the basket,” he explained. “I figured if I could get some easier
shots and also get to the free throw line, that would help me reset and
get my shooting touch and confidence back.”

Move out the way Kobe and LeBron cause Griffin Lentsch is on his way to the top.  Ha, not really but 89 is still freaking huge compared to Kobe dropping 80 and LeBron only having 56 as his high.  Although I'm sure the defense in this game was a little below the NBA standard.
