Joe Paterno Has Treatable Form of Lung Cancer
Looks like Joe Paterno's career might have been cut short anyway. His son Scott Paterno is confirming that he has a treatable form of lung cancer.
Scott Paterno said in a statement provided to The Associated Press by a
family representative on Friday that his father is
undergoing treatment and that "his doctors are optimistic he will make a
full recovery."
"As everyone can appreciate, this is a deeply personal matter for my
parents, and we simply ask that his privacy be respected as he proceeds
with treatment," Scott Paterno said in a brief statement.
According to stats lung cancer is the second most common cancer among men and women in the United States.
Paterno was fired last week in the aftermath of the sex scandal involving ex-assistant coach Jerry Sandusky. Many say that Paterno should have done more to prevent the attacks which is what led to the firing of the legendary coach just three games before his career would have ended anyway.
Even more sad news in a very sad time for the Penn State community. Paterno is a legend in the area and is worshiped by many Penn State faithfuls. Let's hope the coach can get through his fight with cancer.
