Dick Vitale landed his first head coaching job with the University of Detroit back in 1973. He coached there for only four years and compiled a 78-30 record. Yesterday Detroit honored him by naming their basketball court after him.
Vitale was a little skeptical of taking the honor since he had only coached the school for four seasons. He believes that these kind of honors only go to coaches that spend their whole careers at certain university's. The athletic director explained that the honor was for his entire coaching career, not just what he did at Detroit. After he heard that, he agreed to accept the honor.
Below is the press conference from last night in which Vitale gets really emotional and cries for the first part of the video. We all know how emotional Vitale can be when announcing games so it doesn't surprise me that he got really emotional last night. Congrats to Dicky V, the true diaper dandy.
