7 Breakfast Beers For St. Patty's Day

St. Patty's Day is in two days, and I'm a firm believer in starting early so I figured I would promote some breakfast beers I have come across in my beer drinking travels.  You wont find these in the fridge at the 7-11 so if your a real man, pop into your local Total Wine establishment and grab a couple of these to wash down your green eggs and ham on Thursday morning when you start your day. Rise and shine its hammer time.

3.) Stone Brewing Co.-Smoked Porter

Stone Smoked Porter is dark, rich and complicated. A porter is substantially darker than a pale ale, but not as black or opaque as a stout. Our Smoked porter has a captivatingly deep mahogany color, complimented by silky dark tan head. Rich, full bodied and robust. Smooth, with chocolate and coffee-like flavors balanced by the subtle "smoky" character of just the right amount of peat-smoked specialty malt.

4.) Allagash Brewing Co.-Allagash White

Our interpretation of a traditional Belgian wheat beer, Allagash White is unique and truly refreshing. Brewed with a generous portion of wheat and our own special blend of spices, this beer is light and slightly cloudy in appearance, with a spicy aroma. Overall, it is a beer that is very drinkable and smooth any time of the year.

Pair with a salad with vinaigrette dressing or a fresh goat cheese. Excellent accompaniment to poultry and fish entrées or a dessert such as a spicy apple pie.

5.) Samuel Smith's Brewery-Oatmeal Stout

Brewed with well water (the original well at the Old Brewery, sunk in 1758, is still in use, with the hard well water being drawn from 85 feet underground); fermented in ‘stone Yorkshire squares’ to create an almost opaque, wonderfully silky and smooth textured ale with a complex medium dry palate and bittersweet finish.

Serving Suggestions • pizza and salad; pasta and other Italian foods; lobster with drawn butter; steak and kidney pie; ploughman’s lunch; dark flavourful bread; British and French cheeses.

Best served at about 55°F (13°C).

Ingredients • Water, malted barley, cane sugar, roasted malt, yeast, hops, oatmeal, seaweed finings, carbon dioxide.

6.) Troeg's Craft Brewery-Java Head Stout

JavaHead Stout contains a blend of locally roasted espresso and Kenyan coffee beans by St. Thomas Roasters in Linglestown, PA.

JavaHead's recipe is based off of our original oatmeal stout. After the boil, the hot wort passes through our hopback vessel on it's way to fermentation. Packed full of whole leaf hops and a bed of ground coffee beans, the hopback vessel is similar to using a huge French press, intensifying the coffee nose and releasing subtle hints of coffee flavor. The result is a lush oatmeal mouthfeel balanced with cocoa, roast and subtle coffee flavors.
