Beyonce Rocking Black Face

Beyonce is under a lot of criticism for this picture of her sporting black face.  She is sporting the black face to pay tribute to Nigerian musician and humanitarian Fela Kuti in a recent issue of L'Officiel Paris, a French magazine.

People are giving her shit saying things like Jezebel's Dodai Stewart who says "It's fun to play with fashion and makeup, and fashion has a history of provocation and pushing boundaries. But when you paint your face darker in order to look more 'African,' aren't you reducing an entire continent, full of different nations, tribes, cultures and histories, into one brown color?" and  "It's one thing to feel moved by Fela Kuti, and quite another to treat blackness as a fashion accessory, like a pair of glittery heels you put on because it looks cool," Stewart adds.

In my opinion people are taking this way to far.  I agree that there are better ways to pay tribute to someone, and that she could have handled this differently, but give it a fucking break.  On a lighter note Always Sunny In Philadelphia addressed black face in a recent episode of Lethal Weapon Five where Mac has black face.  Check out the trailer below.  Full episodes can be found at fxnetworks.com
